Habitat, Flora and Fauna

The protected area, which covers a large portion of the Peloritanian Ionian slope, includes very diverse natural environments, including deep river valleys, torrents, numerous high mountain peaks, notable Monte Scuderi (1253 m a.s.l.), Monte Polverello (1278 m a.s.l.), etc.

Habitat

The Reserve contains a considerable variety of habitats of community interest, all of which are identified and recognizable under the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC.

Flora

The protected area represents one of the most interesting areas characterizing the Peloritani chain, both for the presence of very peculiar and rare vegetation aspects and for the location of numerous endemic species of considerable phytogeographic interest.

The Reserve is home to a very significant wildlife stock corresponding to the richness of its habitats, to which is added a considerable migratory bird contingent, forming a strategic natural bridge between Europe and Africa.
